It's Autumn once again and that means it's time for the annual Art & Apples Festival in Rochester, Michigan. This marked the 8th year in a row that Goofy Faces was there to draw attendees and promote our services. For the 2nd straight year, guest artist Glenn Ferguson was there to help draw faces for 3 days. Kids and families enjoyed their caricatures. Even Hardcore Pawn star, Les Gold stopped by to see us at work.

Al Kaline Caricature

Robert Bauer - Sunday, December 20, 2009

Last night I had the distinct pleasure of entertaining at a private party which celebrated former Detroit Tiger, Al Kaline's 75th birthday. I took the time to prepare a personal caricature of him to give as a gift at the party. Mr. Kaline is a very gracious and kind gentleman who even signed an extra copy of the caricature so I could add it to my collection.  Happy Birthday, Al!

ISCA Convention Gone MAD

Robert Bauer - Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Last week, I had the pleasure of welcoming 4 outstanding artists from MAD Magazine at this year's annual ISCA caricature convention. Pictured here from left to right are Herman Meija, Sam Viviano, myself, Mark Frederickson and Tom Richmond. Each gave wonderful presentations about their art and careers and lots of anecdotes about working for MAD Magazine.  This year's annual convention took place at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio. Tom and Sam were even kind enough to draw me during the convention which I will post here separately.

Soupy Sales 1926-2009

Robert Bauer - Friday, October 23, 2009

Kid show legend, Soupy Sales died today at the age of 83. Soupy got his start in my birthplace, Detroit, MI. He went on to host one of the first national kid's shows in the country.

I had the pleasure of meeting Soupy while I was a student at Ringling School of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida. He was my first celebrity caricature. I drew it for SRQ Magazine and was allowed to take it to a local comedy club where Soupy was performing that weekend. He signed it and allowed me to take a couple pics of him holding the caricature. His only condition was that I pose alongside him in the photograph. Rest in Peace, Soupy.
